Meet BLUELINE LAB: The future of running shoe innovation from BROOKS

Taking you to see BlueLine Lab: The Brooks Running Shoe Technology of the Future

In world-class marathons, runners follow what is known as "The Blue Line," a blue line painted on the road that marks the 42.195-kilometer marathon route. It is a designated guide; if you run along this line, it is the fastest path from the start to the finish. This is the same approach taken by Brooks’ BlueLine Lab—a lab that brings together a team of thinkers, designers, and athletes to collaboratively invent groundbreaking running shoe technology for the future. They utilize rapid workflows to create advanced product prototypes, ready to be delivered straight to the feet of every runner.

Rooted in science — runner science

Biomechanics scientists work closely with runners, listening to their needs, requirements, and feedback through insights and vast amounts of data before BlueLine Lab gives birth to each advanced footwear technology.

Breaking PRs in futuristic tech

Just like runners who are always two steps ahead, BlueLine Lab is the same. We incorporate cutting-edge techniques and efficient processes that allow BlueLine Lab to accelerate technology development rapidly.

Limit-pushing technology. Limited-edition quantity

BlueLine Lab has taken a giant leap in footwear technology, but focuses on releasing products in small, limited quantities. This enables Brooks to produce shoes with advanced technology in half the time.

“The ability to quickly scale and leverage our innovative technologies while moving into the unknown, we integrate new technologies into full-fledged shoes, and then bring them to market quickly to deliver a better new experience for everyone who loves to run.” This is the response from Bryan Bhark, Senior Developer of Footwear Innovation, when asked what makes the BlueLine Lab workflow unique.

From the unique carbon fiber plate innovation in the Hyperion Elite series to the 3D-printed midsole of the Exhilarate BL, BlueLine Lab’s work has demonstrated a shattering of the technological limitations that everyone aspires to. Soon, get ready to meet the latest innovation from BlueLine Lab: the Glycerin Max, featuring the brand-new DNA Tuned foam technology that combines two foam cell sizes in one, providing both high cushioning and high responsiveness at the same time.

But before that time comes, the REV Online Store invites you to explore the journey and look back at the history of success of Brooks shoes born from BlueLine Lab.

Hyperion Elite 4 PB (2025)

BlueLine Lab uses 100% PEBA foam, infused with nitrogen to create DNA GOLD cushioning technology that works in tandem with size-specific carbon fiber plates, giving you power that goes beyond mere responsiveness. The result is the Hyperion Elite 4 PB racing shoe, which allowed seven pro runners from the Brooks team to set new records at the 2024 Chicago Marathon.

Glycerin Max (2024)

The Glycerin Max provides both a soft, light, comfortable feel and high-level responsiveness with every step. Once again, this is due to the latest innovation from BlueLine Lab: DNA Tuned, which blends two foam cell sizes in a single midsole. The result is a shoe that will keep you running, running, and running without ever losing energy.

Exhilarate-BL (2024)

The Exhilarate-BL delivers a powerful and efficient run, thanks to its 3D-printed 3DNA midsole structure, which adapts to the unique gait of each individual runner. Brooks' cutting-edge 3D-printed 3DNA midsole technology was specifically designed by BlueLine Lab to enhance the responsive feel underfoot.

Aurora-BL (2021)

BlueLine Lab created technology that had never existed before, then adapted it into a footwear format. For the launch of the Aurora-BL, Brooks' BlueLine Lab introduced ultra-soft, nitrogen-infused DNA LOFT v3 cushioning technology for the first time, which is so soft you'll feel like you're defying gravity.

Hyperion Elite (2020)

A shoe built for speed, the Hyperion Elite was developed rapidly, perfectly timed for Des Linden to wear it to victory in the 2018 Boston Marathon. The Hyperion Elite model features nitrogen-infused, highly responsive DNA FLASH cushioning, along with a unique carbon fiber plate, to help you run faster and longer.

Hyperion Tempo (2020)

Brooks BlueLine Lab paved the way for better training and new personal bests with a revolutionary cushioning process. The DNA FLASH cushioning technology of the Hyperion Tempo is nitrogen-infused to provide a fast, ultra-lightweight ride with incredible energy return.

Catamount (2020)

Through the streamlined processes of BlueLine Lab, the Catamount—a trail running shoe developed for maximum speed and distance—was developed in just 6 months, half the time it typically takes to produce a shoe.

These are the definitions of what it means to be BlueLine Lab from the Brooks brand. For any fans of Brooks shoes, don't miss the chance to try shoes packed with innovations from BlueLine Lab, like the Hyperion Elite 4 PB and Glycerin Max in 2025, right here.
